Kodaikanal Malai Poondu is a garlic cultivated in Kodaikanal Hills of Dindugul District. Kodaikanal Malai Poondu - Garlic from the State of Tamil Nadu have secured Geographical Indications (GI) status on 30th July 2019.  Department of Biotechnology, Mother Teresa Women's University and  Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology, are the applicants for this Product.  Uniqueness as mentioned by the applicants :  Kodaikanal garlic is known for its medicinal properties and preservative properties.  The specialty of this Kodaikanal Malai Poondu lies in its extended storage life period of 8 to 11 months This is because the cloves of the garlic do not get separated for these months.  Kodaikanal garlic has an extraordinary strong smell and pungent taste. Sweet News : Odisha Rasagola -A New GI product of India

Odisha Rasagola  "Ra sagola" Food Stuff from the State of Odisha finally secured GI (Geographical Indications) Tag status in India on 29th July 2019 ,  "Odisha Rasagola" is the 345th Geographical Indication Product in India.  In the year 2017, there was a legal battle two states West Bengal and Odisha for "Rasagola" - an Indian syrupy dessert made from ball-shaped dumplings of Chhena.  The legal battle started in the year 2017 when "Banglar Rasogolla" secured GI Tag status, where Odisha failed to stop "Banglar Rasagolla" to get GI tag status. Odisha Decided to file New Geographical Indications application for protecting "Odisha Rasagola" and finally it succeeded in protecting Odisha Rasagola under Geographical Indications Protection.  Uniqueness: "Odishara Rasagola" is closely linked with Lord Jagarnath Culture.
