Darjeeling Tea - First GI of India





Darjeeling Tea : 

Darjeeling Tea is first to get Geographical Indications Tag in India  in year 2004,  The district of Darjeeling is situated in the state of West Bengal. Tea has been grown in this hilly areas since 1835.

Currently, there are 87 gardens located within the said district cultivating, growing or producing Darjeeling tea.  

Plant -Geographical area relation: 

The rare flavor of Darjeeling tea is a result of combination of plant genes, soil chemistry, elevations, temperature and rainfall unique to the Darjeeling hills.

Darjeeling Tea - Certification Mark: 

Tea Board of India has registered Darjeeling tea as a certification mark in following countries: 

1)  India, 
2)  U.K., 
3)  Canada 
4)  U.S.A
