Certified on : 05/10/2018 by Geographical Indications registry of India .

"Shahi Litchi of Bihar"is the Geographical Indications Name of this product, comes under Agricultural goods category.

Geographical Area : Bihar,  litchi is mainly grown in the districts like Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Vaishali, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Begusarai, Pumea, Khagaria and other adjoining areas.

According to the data Submitted by Applicant, following are the Unique features of Shahi Litchi of Bihar: 

1) Regurar bearer: Bears heavily regularly  with average yield of 80 to 135 kg/Plant/Year

2) Early maturity: Matures in 3rd week of May

3) Creamish  white translucent juicy aril

4) Distinct specificmouth-watering flavour, juicy pulp and pleasant aroma with very good sugar acid blend. Fruits have small seed weighing 3-3.9 g.

Geographical Indications Rules Amended in India

O n 28th August 2020, Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Amendment rules, 2020 have been notified by the Ministry of Commerce and Industries. As per the amended rules: application for the authorized user registration under a registered Geographical Indications can be” made by the Producer in Form GI-3”, which shall be accompanied by the statement of the case to establish how the applicant claims to be the producer of that partic ular registered Geographical Indications. Whereas previous rule states that “Application for the Authorized user “shall be made jointly by the registered proprietor and the proposed authorized user in Form GI-3”.
